Youth
Apprenticeship Programme
A Young Apprenticeship (YA) provides
and exciting opportunity for 14 to 16 year olds to combine their academic
studies with a blend of vocational qualifications and work placements.
Young apprentices will learn the essential skills of professionalism,
team working and presentation required by any industry. Our Career
Advancement Programme in co-operation with ITS Training Services recognises
that excellence in the Young Apprenticeship programme requires new
and innovative ways of learning.
Here are just a few of the projects that Orwell,
Deben and Holbrook High School were involved in during their 2007/2008
YA Programme.
- Visited the Palace of Westminster in London
to give a presentation;
- Organised a meeting with the bank manager
of Lloyds TSB for an overdraft;
- Shipped T-Shirts in from South Africa with
funds from the overdraft;
- Sold the T-Shirts at the Holbrook High
School "Suffolk Strength" fitness and bodybuilding show;
- Negotiated with WABBA - World Amateur Bodybuilding
Association - to help run the show;
- Created a Russian Cuisine and entertained
the "World Traders" during an event at Cliff House -
ITS Training Services in Felixstowe;
- Organised transport for a meeting at Holbrook
High School to organise the event.
How is a Young Apprenticeship Structured?
A Young Apprenticeship (YA) is completed during
years 10 and 11 (key stage 4) of secondary education, and is completed
alongside core curriculum subjects such as English, Mathematics
and Science. Three days a week, young apprentices will follow the
core national curriculum subjects and an average of two days a week
will be spent on the YA programme.
